I also like this line from this song1 which loosely translated means:
I’m a dog I do whatever I want to, you’re stuck in a what-if.
You know what I think we all ought to be better at? Getting out of our what-ifs and even more importantly others’ what-ifs. Others’ paths are their own, both in life and careers. Do not play the meta–that just sets you up for playing the diminishing return curve2 game against others, instead, get out of it.
You have probably heard this before but “do not take advice from others” is the one advice I would stick to, or in other words; get out of the meta.
